CraftyGirl's Featured Shop: LucyBirdy

I have a deep love for books. While I love the Kindle app I have on my tablet, nothing beats the original: a good, old fashioned book. Sadly, a lot of books fall into disrepair and end up being trashed. Determined to show the character of older books, and bring them into a second life, owner Cassandra created paper wreaths, flowers, and more from the pages of old books...and Etsy shop LucyBirdy was born. I'm amazed at the amount of care and detail that goes into every one of her products, and I thought I would share a few that caught my eye.

Children's Book Wreath - Paper Cone Wreath - Vintage Paper Dahlia

When I saw this Children's Book Wreath, I immediately recognized that Cassandra had used pages from Disney's Sword in the Stone, which is one of my all time favorite animated movies. It's bright, colorful, and would be PERFECT for a Disney themed nursery or bedroom!

Antique Book Wreath, Paper Rose Heart Wreath, Paper Rose Wreath

If you're looking for something a little more grown up to display, look no further than this Antique Paper Rose Wreath, made from the pages of  "The Works of Emile Zola," by Walter J. Black, copyrighted and printed in 1928.

Sheet Music Wreath - Antique Book Wreath - Paper Flower Wreath
Easily my favorite, this Sheet Music Wreath is made of gorgeous antique sheet music from the Opera "Rose of the Danube," written by Geoffrey F. Morgan with music by Arthur A. Penn.

Today's featured shop, DerBayzVintage, features vintage art decor, Native American jewelry and a treasure trove of other items. Based out of Montclair, Virginia, owner Adele Boese enjoys going to estate sales and auctions with her children, and restoring vintage pieces to their original glory.  Here are a few of her items that caught my eye:

Stay crafty,

Snow, snow, snow..and new items!

I hadn't planned on coming back from my break until tomorrow, but with the giant snow drifts outside...yeah, it's time :)

Here in Southwestern VA, we got a whopping 10 inches of snow, with snowdrifts up to (or exceeding) 2 feet. Wow! Hubby and I went out with the intention of sledding, but came to the conclusion: We're too tired for this! :) While we both love snow, trying to walk through snow that deep exhausted us within about 20 minutes. So, back into our little apartment we went, content to curl up with books (or in my case, the computer).

So, what has CraftyGirl been up to since she went on break? Well, I'm glad you asked! I've been working on a lot of various projects, and I finally had the chance to list two of them on my Etsy shop. They are...

This adorable 0 to 3 Months Sized Pink Flower Hat, which is perfect for newborn photo shoot or just a day out with Mommy & Daddy. At only $12, it's a steal.

And this...

Crocheted Color Block Lime Green and Purple Adult Sized Long Scarf

Crocheted Color Block Scarf for $20! Fun and colorful, it's 5 inches wide and 60 inches (aka, 5 feet) long.

I have plenty of other projects in the works, so I'll post pictures as I go!

Stay warm (and crafty!),

Featured Shop of the Day: JewelryArtByDawn

Today's featured shop is JewelryArtByDawn, an online Etsy shop that recently opened in December of 2013. As suggested by the title, JewelryArtByDawn! :) Now, as any woman knows, jewelry can be the key from taking an outfit from so-so to WOW. Here are some of the pieces that caught my eye today...

Celtic Style Braided Copper Cuff Spiral Ends Antique Finish

As any good Irish girl, I love anything Celtic inspired. This Celtic Style Braided Copper Cuff is right up my alley. In fact, I'm not even sure if I should post it for ya'll to see since I am so tempted to buy it myself! :) I love the copper color, and the swirls at the ends.

Featured Shop of the Day: ThreeForty

The perfect accessory can make or break any outfit. Myself? I'm an earrings girl. I got out of the habit of wearing them when I was completing my Culinary Arts degree (big earrings are a kitchen no-no) but the habit is back full force.

Today's Featured Shop has adorable fabric button earrings, and she's just getting started!

Meet ThreeForty, the creations of Audrey Walker. Recently opened, she already has a nice sized inventory for someone who's just getting started. (My inventory for the first month was perhaps...4 things? Not very well planned!). A few of her colorful creations caught my eye...

Purple Fabric Button Earrings / Purple Post Earrings / Modern Earrings / Minimalist Jewelry

If you know me, you know of my love of everything purple. Purple pillows, purple clothes, and even (yes, I know, I'm an adult) a purple stuffed hippo. Simple but colorful, these adorable Purple Fabric Button Earrings would easily compliment any outfit you wear. I love the texture; just a plain solid purple would've been boring, but these provide enough detail to make them perfect for any outfit.

Black and White Heart Earrings / Heart Studs / Heart Fabric Button Earrings / Modern Jewelry

Black and white combinations are timeless. (Unlike some of the fashions we've seen lately. Men wearing skinny jeans still freak me out) ThreeForty's Black and White Heart Earrings are perfect in the fact that they'll literally go well with any color outfit you might be wearing that day...or any day afterwards!

ThreeForty's only just getting started, and I think we can expect to see great things from Audrey in the future. Her adorable fabric butting earrings are timeless, colorful and (pun intended) cute as a button. :)

Featured Shop of the Day: EarthsTrove Vintage Emporium

When I think of the word "vintage", I think of class. Simplicity. Elegance. Having been raised by two parents who frequented auctions, estate sales and antique shops, I've grown to have a great fondness for vintage. Some days I think I was born in the wrong era!

So, when I came upon EarthsTrove Vintage Emporium, I sighed happily. Greeted by a discount code in the shop's announcement section, I browsed through the shop and came upon a few items I just HAD to share!

Vintage Eel Skin Purse Bag Gold Chain Strap Small Party Purse Red Purse Excellent Condition

If you know me at all, you know my love for vintage handbags. They're simple, yet wonderfully detailed, and the quality of work is always outstanding. This adorable little number, a Vintage Eel Skin Purse, is a bright pop of color in a timeless style.

VintageGlasses Ice Cream Cone Shaped Glasses Birthday Party Glasses Pastel Colors Ice Cream Dishes Retro Cups Kids Cups Retro Glasses

Another one of my great loves is anything related to the kitchen. Being a trained chef has lead me to enjoy presenting dishes in a variety of shapes, sizes and colors. Could you imagine a whimsical, brightly colored sundae in these Vintage Ice Cream Cone Shaped Glasses? Perfection in a glass!

So, be sure to head over to EarthsTrove Vintage Emporium and check our their amazing stash of all things vintage!

The Reluctant Model

My poor husband..haha. The things I put him through. Most recently, I was working on a custom ordered crochet beard hat, and I needed him to try it on to make sure I had the correct size. He paused in his book, put the hat on and went back to reading. "Smile!", I shouted, as I snapped a picture. "What? You never told me you were taking a picture!" he grumbled. Oh well...he got over it quickly and went back to reading. Here's the photographic proof...

 Request a Custom Order

One of the things I love about custom orders are the ability to create things for a specific person. You have no idea the happiness it brings me when someone receives their order and their eyes light up. The pictures they send me afterwards make me smile, giggle, and sometimes just outright laugh. My favorites, however, are custom ordered baby hats and booties. Babies are a precious gift, something to be cherished, and my heart pretty much sings whenever I get to make something for them. My husband and I don't have any children of our own yet, but I imagine that when we do, they're going to be covered in crochet!...and spoiled rotten. :)
